Studieaux Heaux Curriculum Guide

Introduction

Welcome to the new student curriculum for Studieaux Heaux!  Our goal is to teach you everything you need to know to be fluent on the apparatus of your choice.  Each level has been curated to include tricks, transitions, strength moves and different grips among other categories of skills that will make you a well rounded aerial athlete.

In this curriculum, each apparatus will have four levels and each level will run for three months:

Quarter 1: January to March with a graduation date of March 29th, 2025 at 1:30 pm.

Quarter 2: April to June with a graduation date  of June 28th, 2025 at 1:30 pm.

Quarter 3: July to September with a graduation date of September 27th, 2025 at 1:30 pm.

Quarter 4: October to December with a graduation date of December 27th, 2025 at 1:30 pm.

As a new student, you will begin with an Intro class for the apparatus you are interested in and then move on to Level  1 classes.  At the end of the quarter, you will have the chance to either test out and graduate to the next level or repeat the currently level if more time to master the skill set is desired.

If you have been a longtime student, do not worry!  We will place you in the level best suited for your skill level.  If you are an advanced student you will not be required to start at level one unless you want to experience the full course curriculum.  If you are an incoming new student, you will also have the opportunity to test into a higher level based on your current set of skills.

Level Structure

1.

During the first month, students will focus on learning skills appropriate for the level.  Not all moves will be taught in the first month.  The main focus will be on learning individual skills.  All moves will be taught with an entry and an exit.  If you are a lower level student, you will learn to exit out of the move safely.  If you are a higher level student, you will learn how to exit into another move or transition.  Proper form, technique and technical precision will be required for the skills.  we want you to succeed not just for social media posts, but for the long run.  We want you to have these skills on lock and be confident in them.

2.

During the second month, students will focus on choreography.  Classes will continue to incorporate skills from the required list while focusing on learning basic choreography that begins to weave together the skills you have been learning.  Fro Levels 3 & 4, month 2 will pay special attention to the combinations with entry, exit and choreography so you learn how the combinations fit into a routine.

3.

During the third month, student will begin to explore freestyle and create their own choreography with the skills they have been learning.  Students will complete their knowledge of the skills on the appropriate level skill list.  Classes will focus on using the learned skills to build on choreography and the ability to freestyle.  For Levels 3 & 4, students will take combinations they have learned and begin to create their own choreography and freestyle around them. You will be encouraged to come up with your own combinations.

Graduation

To graduate, you must perform a piece of choreography you have designed yourself.  Each piece must be composed of at least 15 of the skills on the skills list for that level and should be a minimum of 2 minutes long and no longer than 4 minutes.

You will perform your choreography in a small showcase that will be for all of the students who have chosen to graduate.  Outside spectators are not allowed unless you have cleared it with the studio prior to graduation day.  All graduation performances must be done live on the day of graduation.

Instructors will score your piece to ensure the required skills are present and that the manner in which those skills are performed shows competency to move on to the next level of learning.

Although you will not be required to perform to level up, the theory of our level system is that you are given the skills and confidence to do so if you choose.  We want you to understand the ability to perform is the end goal of our curriculum.
